BRIEF HISTORY OF GLORY GROUP OF SCHOOL
The vision came to Mr. Patrick Nwokeike of Imowelle Village Awka-Etiti in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, who was baxed at Onitsha then to start a kindergarten, to gather Children around him education and moral upbringing which is the paramount.
In January 1990, Miss Chinyere Okonkwor from Nnobi was at land to kick- start the vision as a Pre-Nursery School, popularly known as “preparatory class” a one Class building with about eleven children and with the name Glory Nursery School.
By the time she lift in September 1990 for an Examination, Mrs. Edra Maduka from Nnobi having resigned from a private School at Nnewi due to marriage to Nnobi, was asked to come to “Macedonia for help” She decided to answer the “call” this time as several moves has been made to get her kick – start the vision of Mr. Patrick Nwokeike but to no avail.
She was greatly supported and assisted by her husband, Comrade Emmanuel Maduka who was at the time teaching in G.S.S Awka-Etiti and Aunty Emelda Nwokeike of blessed memory.
The first graduation Ceremony to Primary one recorded two (2) graduated while the Second one recorded five (5) graduates.
The products of the School who were being sent to central School, Awka-Etiti for their Primary School advertised the School tremendously and there was a boom to the extent that the sitting room and corridors of Mr. Nwokeike’s house were turned into classrooms.
By January 1991, Nursery1, 2 and 3 had been put in place with Mrs.Edra Maduka as the Headteacher popularly called “Head Miss” with Miss Obiageli Ezeonu from Nnobi and Miss Ngozi Onyezitelu from Agulu – urigbo as teachers with the name Glory Education Centre. Due to the outstanding performance of the Pupils, their parents refused to send their children to public Schools to continue with their Primary education and started requesting for Primary classes.
In January 1992, an application to operate as Nursery and Primary School was written to Ministry of Education Awka.
Final approval inspection to operate a Nursery was done on 8th December,1993 by Mr.A.M.O Aboim,Zonal inspector of Education (A.I.E) Idemili and the approval granted 16th May 1994.
Dr. M.C.O Omenugha, the Medical Director Moon Hospital or Maternity Nnobi was engaged on a retainer ship arrangement to serve as the school’s Medical Director.
The formal approval of Junior Primary was also done on 17th December and the approval granted on 21 July 1994. The School was upgraded to start a Senior Primary section on 16th February 1996 with J.O.C Onwuasoeze as the Headmaster.
Parents came up again with request for Secondary School on 11th December 2000 final inspection to start a Junior Secondary section was conducted and the approval granted on 28th may 2001.
On 12th September 2001 the Director (School), Mr. O.U Muoma granted the School approval to register for Junior Secondary School certificate Examination on behalf of the Honorable Commissioner for Education and confirmed by the chief registrar Ministry of Education Examination Development Centre Awka, Mr. S.E Oranebo on May 2002 with forty Students in the School.
It is pertinent to note that the team for the junior Secondary School Inspection included the Z.I. E Ogidi Zone Mrs. S. O Ezeh, the A.I. E Mr. B.C Okolo Mrs.Adaobri Okonkwor from the Zonal InspectorateOffice Ogidi and Mrs. F.C Agbodike from the Headquarters Awka with Mrs. Edna Maduka as the Manager headmistress and Mrs. Rita okpalaifo as the acting Principal.
Later the School was upgraded to operate the Senior Secondary section with Mr. Mike Okoli as the Principal.
In 2004/2005,2006 and 2007 the SS3 Students affiliated with Schools at Nnobi, Nnewi and Nnokwa for their WASSCE respectively.
On 16thFebruary,2007, the School was inspected and recommended for approval as Centre for the WASSCE by Director of Schools Ministry of Education Awka Mr. chika H. Nnadi for Honorable Commissioner for Education, this was confirmed on 26th July 2007 by Mr. A.J Umo Deputy Register School Examination Department for the head National Office and the first WASSCE was sent for in the School in 2008 with an Excellent result.
The School was also approved as Centre for National Examination Council (NECO) on 19th June 2008 by Mr.Adolt.O. Nweke Director Quality Assurance.
On 27th February 2012, the school was also approved as Centre for NABTEB
